SPTE was established as an incentive of the Board of Directors of the Lutheran Society as a third educational institution run by the Society.

The building dates back to the year 1869 and was aimed for the Evangelic Gymnasium which was situated in a very cramped building in the neighborhood at no 1 Plac Koscielny. In the same year, there were introduced numerous laws, which were very disadvantageous for Lutheran Schools. The ministry, overtook the building for their own purposes without the consent of the congregation and the gymnasium classes were gradually closed. Only after a new building had been built, the house was returned to the Society.

In the period between the 1st and the 2nd World Wars there were a primary school and a kindergarten in the building, and from 1950 to 2005 it was a house of a Technical High School.

The main aim of the institution is to instill in students the principles of Christian ethics and Protestant work ethos. The policy is coherent with the policy of gymnasium and the high school run by the Society.

At present there are 226 students attending the school, 42% of whom are of Lutheran denomination. There are 30 teachers employed in the school, 50% Lutherans.
